Hi Everyone. This is the 2nd part to the Universal Print Driver series. In the previous article we explored Installation Options for the HP Universal Print Driver. Take a look at that article first. This post explores the policy options for the HP Universal Print Driver which are available for exploitation using HP Managed Print Policies. This gives us the basis to explore the 3rd part of the Color Access Control series.

(a non-HP website) where the video I have
created is hosted.

I think I figured out what my issue was with the Group Policy Object I chose to leave in the article. Did you? Send me a comment online advising what you believe the fix to be. Some fancy logo ware is in it for the first correct reply.

Please note, the HP blogs will be migrating to a new platform over the next week. As of tomorrow, May 23, I won't be posting to my blog and won't be able to receive any comments submitted. Please hold your comments until June 1st when our new site will be live.

Hint, some new firmware updates are available for your MFPs with some great new features. Be sure to check out www.hp.com/go/support to look up all the goodies. I’ll post on this in greater detail when the blog returns in its new format in June. Over and out...

Hi Shailendra,

All drivers for products can be obtained by going to www.hp.com/go/support.  Or go to the HP website in your country and select "Support" from the main page as it may be localized in many different languages.

I'm going to make a couple of suggestions however.  If it's the HP OfficeJet 9110 you are referring to, this product supports PCL5, PCL6 and PostScript.  Any one of the flavours of the HP Universal Print Driver could be recommended.

Of course, the discrete (regular) drivers are available as well from the HP support website.  If you need the scanning drivers, there's a link to order the CD-ROM off of the website.

Regards,

Brian.

I first want to thank you for posting the two video tutorials on the UPD. I found both very helpful. We are very anxious for the third. Here's my question; If we build a Windows 2003 "64bit" Enterprise Ed-R2 SP2 print server and load the "64bit" version of the UPD for all the print queues, what version of the UPD will "32bit" XP clients get from the print server when they attatch to those print queues via "Point and Print" a.k.a using the Add Printer Wizard? If we have to install the "32bit" version of the driver, what would be the recommanded way to do that?

Hi Norman,

I really appreciate the feedback.  Thanks for taking the time to share it.  The procedure for loading the HP Universal Print Driver on 64-bit servers vending to 32-bit clients (or vice-versa) using Point-and-Print is the same as with standard drivers.  That's because the UPD can be loaded using the add printer wizard or add driver wizards like standard print drivers.  Load the 64-bit driver on the server first and create/share out the print queue.  Then on the server, go to the "Server Properties" and load the "x86" (32-bit) version of the same driver (use the same version - important with device settings).  The 32-bit version on a 64-bit server isn't tied to any particular queue, it just happens to be vended to 32-bit clients if they connect and require it.  The INF name has to match exactly.  When the 64-bit queue is available with the 32-bit driver loaded in the server properties, you have what you need for your 32-bit clients to connect to those print queues.  I think because 64-bit is coming up as a more regular question from my customers as well, I'll do a video on this.  Most customers I find are thinking of 64-bit with Server 2008 for the increased available addressable memory for other functions and of course as I understand it will be a requirement for Windows 7.  Look to this blog for some content here.  Will post something as early as time permits.  Cheers,
