Video Tutorial: Exploring Embedded Send-to-Folder

Posted by: Brian R. Kneebone

This is a continuation of the earlier "Exploring Embedded Send-to-Email" video tutorial contained in another 30-minute session focused on sending documents directly to a folder.  Four examples are covered from common shared folders, to folders which are personal and published in Active Directory.

* UPDATED (2008-NOV-04): Note that this video has been temporary removed from the site while content is updated based on feedback from within HP.  When content is added an update notice will be provided here.

(a non-HP website) where the video I have
created is hosted.

Something I didn't comment on in the vide was HP's support for the "Distributed File System".  Type in your DFS links like you would normally type in a CIFS/SMB share and the MFP will automatically attempt to resolve the referrals in DNS and LDAP.  Also, the use of the "Home Folder" attribute is exclusive to M-series and CM-series products and newer with touch-screens. Be sure to use the latest firmware for your MFPs to get access to these features.

Key take-aways I hope our audience members who review this tutorial take away are:

  • What the differences are between Email and Folder with the pro's and con's
  • What the importance of authentication is to protect access, identify users and faclitate document delivery
(alternate authentication mechanisms are available upon request like swipe, prox and smart-cards)
  • How administrators can use email (with send-to-me) or folder (with directories created by username or use of home folders) as helpful send-to-self solutions
  • How basic configuration is accomplished in the EWS and what some of the key settings are of interest to administrators
  • That this is the entry-level into very basic document capture, much more powerful document capture solutions are available from Hewlett-Packard and its partner communities where business needs require them.

What do you think?  Questions, comments, other?  Take care.
