Hi Vinod, just go to the www.hp.com/go/webjetadmin portal.  From there select the "Download Now" button at the top of the page.  Then select your operating system (XP, 2K3, Vista).  The program is listed under the "Application" heading of the next page.  When you click download, it downloads the whole WJA binary as this is a cumulative roll-up of both the application, SR1.5 and the hot-fix.  Best regards, B.

After upgrading to 10.1, I get a .NET Runtime 2.0 error with the faulting application being uiexec.exe, version 1.0.0.36712.  Web JetAdmin does not completely start up, only initial web page.  Got any suggestions?  I have 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 SP1 Frameworks on my PC.  Thank you.

Hi James,

I don't know the answer myself.  It does look like the ITRC forums have several users reporting various (and possibly related) issues.  You could try searching through them for self-help at http://itrc.hp.com and clicking on "Forums".

Since HP Web Jetadmin is a free product, if you're interested in advanced support, this is available to customers under contract with HP.  We have extremely savvy folks able to help out, but it does require a contracted support arrangement.  Reach out to your sales representative to give you more information on the available services.  If you don't have one, just click the "Contact HP" link on your local HP portal asking to be put in touch with a sales representative for the purposes of quoting HP Web Jetadmin support services.

Take care, B.

Hi Bill, for self help, options include as (partially) mentioned above:

http://www.hp.com/go/support - type in "Web Jetadmin" and you'll be taken to the self-help support site.

http://itrc.hp.com - click on "Forums" and search for relevent Web Jetadmin topics as needed.  Most of the threads appear to be unmoderated.

I should note that I just found out that basic phone support is available for a limited time (think "months" from the posting of this comment) on Web Jetadmin while HP tweaks its contract offerings for paying customers.  That includes support through 1-800-HP-INVENT, DASH, Support One and Managed Print Services helpdesks.

To be sure I wasn't accidentally lying to you, I called 1-800-HP-INVENT and said "Technical Support" then "Web Jetadmin" at the prompts.  The system replied back with, "Is that HP Web Jetadmin software?"  I replied yes and it routed me through.

I should note that I called after-hours for the WJA support desk so was greated with a "please call back later", but if you're calling during standard business hours you should be able to get through.

When you do get a support agent, be sure to clearly detail the problem you're having and request escalation if required.

Once HP Web Jetadmin becomes a paid-for support option, you'll need to contact an HP sales representative for quotation on a support/services contract.  Follow the instructions listed above to contact a person in your region.

Hopefully this information gets you started.  Again for the others who might be reading this comment, please don't take this to mean free support is available for this free product indefinitely.  Yes support is still available by 1-800-HP-INVENT during the time of this writing, but it will be retired at some point in the relatively near future.  I strongly suggest people work with their sales representative to get setup with proper support in advance of this change taking place.  If something becomes publicly available on the HP Website which I can reference, I sure will.

Best Regards, Brian.

This has to be one of the worst pieces of software this side of Microsoft. No 64 bit and the 32 bit version takes days to launch. I'm still waiting 15 minutes later. I have 4500 clients upgrading to 64 bit Windows and HP has decided to not release a product for that version of windows. [removed] Oh, I forgot, HP is in the ink business.

Hi TaskMistress, it sounds like you've bumped into some issues where you could use some help from HP so I would definitely encourage you to call into support.  HP's phone support for HP Web Jetadmin is being carried forward indefinitely and when navigating through the voice prompts, saying "HP Web Jetadmin" should get you to the connectivity team to assist you further.  I wanted to address some of the points in your question because these actually come up fairly often.  This is especially true as more clients move to 64-bit (more so now than ever to get beyond the 32-bit 3GB barrier).  I use 64-bit almost exclusively on our demo centre assets whether Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux.

Firstly, the software is meant to be installed on a server platform.  Yes it can be installed on client systems like XP and Vista, but it really is server software.  Keep in mind it's going to chew up a fair amount of memory and processing horse-power so taking this away from your desktop asset may not be the best use of the software.  But great if testing in a pinch.

Yes, the server software must be installed in a 32-bit environment (I typically recommend Server 2003/2003R2/2008 SE or EE - but has to be 32-bit).  Clients however connect just fine to the HP Web Jetadmin server in my experience and run in 32-bit emulation.  To date, I have had no issue connecting with 64-bit XP or Vista.  I would expect the same to be true of 7 and Server 2008R2 as well, but haven't experimented with the bits beyond the public beta that came out in the winter.  If people have been using the RC or RTM builds, let me know what your experience is like (post here).

We have many enterprise customers connecting with thousands of printers but please, follow the sizing recommendations here: ftp.hp.com/.../hpwja_installguide_en.pdf (pp 6-7 of 37).  One of the biggest issues we're seeing right now are administrators not feeding HP Web Jetadmin the necessary resources (especially around memory and the second proc/core, real of virtual by setting SMP to 2 or greater) and wondering why performance is sluggish.  There have been many advancements made, especially with the benchmarks most recently tested in HP Web Jetadmin 10.2, but this is a commercial application which performs best when observing the sizing recommendations.

Because of the way the solution is architected, yes, it can take a minute or two (or a few more if loading the first time) to launch the connection from a client PC, but this of course depends on the speed of the network connection between your client and the server plus the resources allocated at both ends.

The 10.x platform is a major leap forward from the previous 8.x platform where a number of usability features were added.  I'd strongly encourage anyone having challenges to talk with the support staff at Hewlett-Packard to investigate performance considerations further.  Individual sizing recommendations may vary depending on how many devices and what you're doing with those devices are planned out.  In some cases, multiple servers may be recommended using optional device synchronization techniques.  For large enterprises, I strongly encourage organizations to participate in HP's consultative services (h20338.www2.hp.com/.../332272-0-0-225-121.html) which can be investigated further and optionally purchased through your HP Sales Representative or by sending an email to the link on the WJA consulting page.

Take care, B.
