Hi Everyone,
Some of you may have already jumped on the latest firmware from HP.com. Especially if you have subscribed to email alerts for the products in your inventory. But either way, here is the summary of the last major firmware release (3rd for 2008) which began rolling in December 2008. Product names are linked to jump you directly to the support site for downloads.
Here are the major enhancements HP has been able to provide in these latest updates ...
| Major Enhancements |
| Devices Launched between Fall 2004 and Summer 2006 ... |
- Kerberos Authentication now supports the ability to specify multiple Kerberos domains (realms) - this feature was first introduced with the devices launched in the Fall 2006 and later (m-series devices) and has been ported back. Look for HP Web Jetadmin to be able to support configuration of multiple additional realms coming shortly.
- Improved response times when canceling faxes from the front panel & improved handling of other fax/communications related considerations.

Improved localization for Catalan, Russian, Greek and Korean languages.
- Improved PCL-XL (PCL6) Handling where rare jobs may have caused periodic 49 errors.
- Suppression of "Resend RFU via USB Dev Port" message on successful upgrade.
- Improved support for printing stored faxes, time stamps for digital send / fax log.
- Improved support for Novell authentication when using HP MFP Digital Sending Software.
- First page out speed improvement for departmental devices which do not have instant-on technology. As the client is printing a job, an SNMP command is released to the target printer to "wake up" while job is still rendering/spooling. This is supported when using tools like the HP Universal Print Driver version 4.7 or later.
- Cumulative roll-up for the HP Color LaserJet CM3530mfp (introduced recently) which gets these benefits as well as new ones released in the previous firmware roll for other products.

The "Read me" or "Release Notes" for each firmware update have more specific information including details on customer-specific fixes which may be applicable to your environment. Be sure to download and test before deploying environment wide to ensure you get expected results based on any unique configurations you may have for your products.
On a personal note, I want to extend a big "Thank-you" to the dedicated people at HP in our support, technical marketing and lab organizations who work very hard to classify and prioritize updates for a broad range of our customers. I know many of my customers appreciate your efforts that they've had addressed through their HP support options.
