Climate Change: Walk the talk
I recently came across a video on the Allianz Knowledge website. Wim Wenders, a German film director, photographer and producer, talks about his personal actions tostop global warming and he offers some advice to others on what they can do.

Irrespective of your job and personal life situation, everybody should ask himself or herself the question “how can I help fighting global warming”. People often feel powerless to be able to fight global warming. I myself certainly do sometimes. But I think that Wim is right: Communication is the first step and everyone should do what he or she is able to do. Wim sold his car – that is of course one possibility. However, if you need your carfor work, then you can at least make sure you buy a car with the least possible impact on our environment. And you can think twice, before you drive your car and check if there are any other ways to travel with less impact on the environment.

Another example, which is closely connected to our work at HP, is reducing the energy consumption of IT equipment. You can have a look at our tips page to get some ideas on how you can reduce the impact of your IT on the environment by taking a few simple steps such as enabling the power-saving settings on your PC and monitor. We’ve calculated that for every 12 users that turn on those settings, the amount of CO2 saved is equal to removing one car from the road.

During the last months no day has passed without me finding myself in a conversation around global warming and climate change – be it on business occasions or in my private life But this is actually exactly what is necessary. We need to talk about it to anyone who is prepared to listen and join the conversation. We must exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experience how to best fight global warming.

Although climate change is a huge challenge, even small gestures and activities can help. Although I feel sometimes helpless, such examples as put forward by Wim Wenders show me that we can do something and we have to do something. And everything starts with talking about it. Let’s talk about climate change: What actions are you taking either in your business or private life to combat climate change?
