EDS Acquisition Closes

Remember when Ross Perot ran for President?  I do, and now – the company he founded in 1962 is joining HP.  It seems like it was just yesterday that I was writing for this blog about what the EDS acquisition would mean for HP, and now – as the world knows – the acquisition is closed.  This is an historic moment for our industry, for HP and EDS, and for our customers.   Whenever HP is in the news as much as this it creates a lot of buzz and excitement, and even people who don’t typically read the business press have questions.  It’s one of those times when casual acquaintances – people I see in the gym or at Starbucks who know where I work will stop and ask, “Hey, I saw in the news – the acquisition with EDS just closed, does that mean anything for you?”

To the next person who asks that question, here’s what I think I’ll say, “It means a lot to me and everyone at HP, because it secures our position as the world’s leading technology company.  Because of my role in enterprise sales and services at HP, the combination of HP and EDS means we now have the capability to serve customers with the most comprehensive and competitive portfolio in the industry. I see exciting days ahead and more great things for HP.”

Skeptics will surely question our ability to integrate successfully with EDS – and it is a monumental job, but we’ve done it before (Compaq) and we’ll do it again.
