HP Wins GCN Best of FOSE Award for Security Hardware

I just got back from the FOSE 2009 Conference and Exhibition but the buzz of the show is still ringing for HP. Yesterday, Government Computer News announced this year’s GCN Best of FOSE Award recipients.

I am proud to tell you that, with more than a hundred entries and only 14 total winners, the HP Access Control Smartcard Solution for U.S. Government took home the ‘Best of FOSE’ Award for the Security Hardware Category.

Why did GCN see this solution as a big deal? Traditionally, one of the most difficult aspects of security for government agencies has been protecting content while it interacts within a printing and imaging environment. The HP Control Smartcard Solution for U.S. Government helps alleviate this problem and tighten security by allowing imaging and printing network authentication for government employees --- enabling them to connect, communicate and collaborate within a protected imaging and printing infrastructure.

As government agencies continue to adopt more rigorous standards, we feel this award winning solution is indicative of HP’s mission to continuously provide our government customers with innovative technologies to help manage agency document and information workflows more effectively and securely. As one of the most prestigious awards in the public sector space, we were thrilled to represent HP and be the recipient of a very competitive category within the contest.

Hi everyone and greetings from the 2009 FOSE Conference in DC!

This year's FOSE has been an incredibly energizing event for HP. To start, the event theme this year is 'Federal Power Meets Future Power'. HP stayed true to the theme by showcasing how the company is working to help government agencies drive economic recovery through technology innovation. We all know that IT is playing an increasingly central role in helping the government solve its toughest challenges. At FOSE, HP highlighted how federal agencies can reduce costs and mitigate risks, while they also implement green initiatives and enhance services.

HP backed this up with the introduction of a number of solid solutions to help agencies revolutionize the way government is administered --- helping them increase efficiency, secure information and drive down costs. FOSE attendees received a firsthand look at the following new HP technology solutions for the public sector:

• Voluntary Product Accessibility Template – assists federal agencies using HP Exstream in their compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and

• HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array 6400 and 8400 (EVA6400/8400) and the enhanced SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.1 (SVSP 2.1) – expand HP’s storage virtualization portfolio.

2009: Stay Focused

In a time when the economy poses many challenges and unanswered questions, we all are searching for ways to stay focused on what is important, what will make a difference in our lives and what can wait until circumstances get better. HP is no different. Our goal in 2009 is to help our customers stay focused on what they need to do to reach their full potential. So how are we going to do this?

1. It may seem obvious due to the times, but cost savings is at the top of our list. We will strive to show customers how HP can help their enterprises control costs and improve productivity. Pay for only what you really need! By combining print and copy functions in one device, customers not only save hardware costs, they reduce network connections and device management too.

2. Security issues come to mind. Whether it is in financial services, public sector and healthcare confidentiality or just in general business, privacy and security are critical for our customers. HP is committed to educating our customers on the risks of inconsistent security methods, and will work to equip them with the solutions they need to keep data secure.

3. “Going Green” rightfully continues to be top of mind for businesses, and this year HP’s environmental initiatives are stronger than ever! We intend to fortify HP’s position as an environmentally responsible partner and raise awareness around HP enterprise solutions that can help our customers meet their own “green” standards. Customers will be able to use less energy, recycle more and reduce the impact of imaging and printing — helping reduce costs, save resources and deliver results that are not only good for business but good for the planet.

Though there may be challenges ahead, we’re steadfastly moving forward with a positive attitude, as optimistic as ever in staying focused on what really matters to our customers. What are you focusing on for 2009?
