As managing editor for WhatTheyThink's Going Green section, I read an enormous amount about green business practices. Yesterday I received my copy of Print magazine - a wonderful publication, by the way.

In it was a little piece on The Designers Accord, but there was a great bit describing "eco-fatigue." It mentioned the Britney Spears Factor: "Everyone loves you. Until they don't."

We may have reached the top of the hype cycle... but this issue isn't going to go away!

You're spot on! In 2007 HP unveiled our Print 2.0 Strategy for both consumer and commercial customer segments, and we effectively "retired" the Total Print Management moniker in favor of Print 2.0. And it's more than labels - we've expanded our MPS business offerings, we have extensively expanded our partner solutions program that connects tested, proven and certified best-of-breed partner software solutions to our MFPs and printers, and we have increased our field resources to serve our customers directly and with our channel partners. More information on all these programs can be found at www.hp.com/large.

I have used the venerable HP Resource Manager instead to assign IDs to fonts and macros and successfully store them on laserjets. We currently are using a number of LJ4250 printers. (BTW, thank you, thank you, for incorporating CompactFlash cards in these printers!!!) We store form overlays for invoices and statements that we generate in MS Word and merge with data printing from our Unix backend server. We also incorporate Material Safety Data Sheets that are stored as macros on the printers.

Alas, I cannot get HP Resource Manager to discover any printers in Vista. How is it that an ancient (by technology standards) program like HPRM can achieve something that Web Jetadmin cannot--or won't?
