Small Businesses use HP Officejet Printing System for “Sixcess”

Posted by Bret Bottger, HP Inkjet Systems Marketing

In my last blog posting, I introduced the new HP Officejet Printing System. Today, I’m going to introduce you to real Officejet users and let them describe their experiences with the products.

In December, I met Jann and Laurie Sixx who use an HP Officejet Pro L7680 all-in-one in their business, Sixcess Drug Testing Services. Based in Lancaster, California, this family-owned business has provided drug screening services since 1995.

Jann and Laurie uses their HP Officejet Pro color all-in-one for a wide variety of tasks including printing, faxing, scanning and copying. As the only two employees of the company, this husband and wife team, print about 500 pages a month. Of these pages, about half are printed in color, including promotional brochures, billing statements, business cards, certificates, envelopes and letters. As I started to understand how the Sixxs use their all-in-one, it became clear they appreciate the convenience of having one single device that can handle many functions instead of using several separate devices. Producing marketing materials like brochures in their office with HP products is a real money saver for Sixcess.

I bought an Officejet Pro L7590 on Jan. 2, 2009 for use in a small office, with a Dell computer running Windows XP.  The document feed quit working in March, 2009.  Email to Customer support received no response.  The pickup from the paper tray is sufficiently unreliable that I can usually count on wasting 2-3 sheets of stationary trying to print a one page letter.  Have never been able to use the scanner because the software and my computer don't get along with each other.  Bottom line: I'm using this product exclusively for printing the occasional email and document off the computer, and using the old Dell 1600 N that I thought I was taking out of service to photocopy, scan (B & W)  and fax-anything that requires reliable document feeding or pickup.  I have owned HP Laserjet II and III, both of which had over a million pages on the clock when taken our of service.  I'm sad to see HP get out of the reliable printer business in favor of whatever it's in now.
