The latest TOP500 list of the world's largest supercomputers was announced this week at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC 09) in Hamburg, Germany.
HP leads the TOP500 the current June 2009 list with 212 systems (42%). IBM comes in #2 with 188 systems on the list (37%). The most interesting trend we see is the continued shift towards clustered, standards-based solutions, such as HP BladeSystem.
In fact, HP BladeSystem c-Class is the fastest growing architecture in the history of the TOP500 list. Of HP’s 212 systems on the current TOP500 list, 207 (95%) are HP BladeSystem. This number is up from 201 HP BladeSystem entries on the last list published in November 2008.
The word’s largest supercomputers, once limited to academics and research laboratories, today power a far more diverse set of businesses. Some of the world's largest super computers are driving digital media creation used in animated movies and for special effects and run many of the popular Web 2.0 applications we use today, such as social networks and Web-based content sharing sites.
