Indeed - and if only we could find the magic solution to that age old problem.

The whitepaper attached to this blog tries to highlight some of the key things to look out for throughout the RDM lifecycle – and points out what are key control points to manage when defining and managing requirements.

There are a few tools out there which can help us to define “better” requirements I think what we need to do is emphasize the importance of these tools and highlight that some extra upfront work in the definition phase will prove its ROI in the later phases of the SDLC etc.

I am curious about the white paper. In my consulting job I need to read/review a lot of requirments documents. The challenge is always to fond the holes, the ambiguities, the inconsistenties, and more.

If only people wrote the requirements a little better..... What a challenge!

Hi Genefa,

We share an interest in requirements.

About 25 years ago I started with a program that analyses requirements written in a natural language. Recently NASA IVV evaluated my program and declared Requirements Assistant (RA) the clear winner.

One of the results was, that a domain expert found 4 major issues in a set of requirements, and an junior analyst with RA found the same 4 issues, but in addition the junior analyst found 6 more with RA. (In less time that the domain expert needed!).

The message on the RM Blog is surely a right step towards understanding the present Role RM could play. I would like to get more out of this in terms of how effective can RM be projected in comparitions to previous QC versions & that of its competiotrs in the RM segment mainly "DOORS".

Great article with valuable information on letting the businesses focus on the required basics in executing software projects. Good and comprehensive set of requirements definition and management are necessary for any successful project.

In addition to the four key RM areas that you mentioned the companies must also focus on "communicating" the requirements to the stakeholders and the users.

Also, the mindset should be not from the standpoint of clarity and getting things done right.
