Making sense of the Modern Application Lifecycle
Let me start with a metaphor that doesn't have to do with IT.... Today I received an email about global warming that said: 1.  There is new scientific evidence about Global Warming that states it will be worse than we expected yet at the same time2.  Organizations are increasing the funding towards lobbying efforts that downplay the global warming threat Whether or not (or should I say weather or not) you have an opinion about global warming is not the point of this blog.  My point is that I see a similar effect going on right now in the IT applications industry. Metaphorically speaking: 1.  Moving to modern application architectures will have a bigger impact on IT than what most expect and

2.  Pressures are at work in the market to downplay this because of factors that

a)  stall IT investments in capabilities that help manage the impact of modern applications (the economically-driven pressure to just invest to keep the lights on) and ...

b) promote a tendancy to avoid learning the lessons of SOA and applying them across the application landscape due to the term “SOA” falling out of favor, or at least into the trough of disillusionment.
Does managing the process of moving to modern applications feel like this?

Adopting a modern and architecturally-driven approach to applications can have a strong payoff for IT-Business responsiveness but is hard—most good, high value things are....

And a proven way to address the difficulty factor is to get ahead of app modernization challenges by making process and technology investments to empower a ready IT organization with capability to see, manage and automate the application lifecycle.   If you want to hear more, HP is hosting a webcast in which we will share a modern approach to application lifecycle management… one that goes beyond the SDLC to address the full lifecycle of managing modern apps from project planning to operations.  It will also weave in aspects that will look remarkably familiar to anyone who has embarked on a SOA journey. I would like to hear your comments about what you thought after the webinar here on “making sense of SOA”    Register for this ALM webinar event at http://tinyurl.com/dhpl3b
