A beautiful story beautifully told. The love between Sally and Paul is heartwarming; it has been a privilege to share a piece of their life. And, I do hope that Sally doesn't feel a "failure" for enjoying time without the implant device being connected. I often remove my hearing aid and tell my friends how much more peaceful life is when the noise is gone. Enjoy it, Sally! :)

I would advise anyone interested in the film or in the issue of Cochlear Implantation to do a little more research. Cochlear Implantation is not simply an operation which "allows deaf people to hear," but is a complicated and invasive medical procedure that is highly controversial due to its implications for American Sign Language and Deaf culture, a culture that many argue is being deliberately wiped out by these so-called medical miracles (ever hear of eugenics?)

Anyway, I'm not saying there isn't something to be discussed here, but that parties should not go into this conversation completely ignorant of the oppression Deaf people, their language, and their culture have suffered at the hand of these "solutions" to their "problem."

I saw this film in my film studies class and I just want to saw that I really loved it. The music was so..... I don't really know how to explain it. Overall, I agree with the person above.

Amazing film!! It is so touching i couldn't hold being stoic and was crying and crying and laughing at the same time. It is a great moving and inspiring story of two adorable, and at the same time sad people. I feel a great deal of respect to Irene for her work! God bless.

A wonderful piece of work! Their story tells so much more than that of deaf people undergoing surgery for the cochlear implants. It is ultimately a very human story that captures their lives in a very beautiful and real way.

I just finished watching this film. I could so relate as I am a child of deaf parents. I am now 65 my parents have been gone for over 20 years. I watched the difficulties that they had to overcome all their lives. I had so wanted to somehow write about it but it has been to emotional to go back there.

Bravo to Irene. I cried through most of it. I remember that my parents said if they were given a chance to hear they would not take it & I always thought it strange but now that I have seen the results I guess in their hearts they knew how it would turn out

I found the film fascinating. It is a love story and a story of admirable spirit and determination. Her parents are so endearing. I want a sequel.

I just finished watching this documentary on HBO and i loved it so much.I love her parents humor. They seem to be a wonderful couple and family.Keep up the great work Irene.

I saw the documnetary of Here and Now and it was wonderful. I am partialy deaf on one side and related somewhat. It was very emotional for me but I really enjoyed it.

I absolutely love this song, and all the other songs in this movie. (ex. the one Irgova seeing solo just made me want to cry.) The music is hauntingly beautiful and will not leave my head. I've got to buy the soundtrack and try to play my violin with it. There's just this magnetic force pulling me to it.

Hansard's and Irgova's performance is also quite hauntingly beautiful. There's no action, no violence, no sex- nor does it need any. The actors just pull you along with them into such a beautiful relationship you just ache for them.

Awesome!
