It looks like the big mystery as to who created the YouTube mashed video of Apple’s 1984 Superbowl commercial and video of Senator Hillary Clinton has been solved.
But the whole thing got me thinking about what might be next for media with the start of the Presidential campaigns. So here are a few thoughts…
- Blogging Will Be Huge – every candidate, pundit, newscaster and individual interested in politics will blog. So tons of more blogs will be created which is great for this important medium. But I predict we’ll have “blog gate”…. In which a political candidate says it’s actually them blogging, but in actuality they have a paid blogger behind the scenes.
- Naturally everyone will have killer web site, with all the bells and whistles
- Banner and video advertising will be everywhere…but inventory supply will get more and more constrained leading up to election-day. And as advertisers we’ll pay more for less inventory. Thus, I’d start pre-buying interactive inventory now in order to ensure inventory availability.
- Search Will Gain Steam – and Search Agencies will be managing key words on the latest “spin”, speech, position or scandal. The job will be 7 by 24.
- Political Widgets – we’ll be able to download widgets with all sorts of details…how many days till Election Day, poll numbers, political news, etc.
- User Generated Content – as with the Senator Clinton example above, more UGC videos will be placed across the web than you can shake a stick at. In fact, I predict that a candidate will actually have a contest offering to air the best user generated ad on the web.
- Product Placement – ok this is a bit of wildcard prediction…but what if we saw candidate bobble head dolls used as product placement. Ok, maybe not.
- Mobile – a political campaign will try a mobile campaign which will cause uproar with cell phone users.
- Second Life – every candidate and political party will have a presence on Second Life. They’ll give away free Second Live T-Shirts, have town hall meetings, and hire others to walk around Second Life door-to-door to get the Second Life “vote out”. I predict that the candidate who wins the Second Life vote will not win the First Life vote and scandal will erupt in the Second or First Life court system.
- DVR’s – a campaign or party will use TIVO or another DVR provider to distribute content about the candidate – you’ll be able to sign up for information, etc.
So what media ideas do you think will be prevalent in the coming campaigns???
