WebInspect 6.2 is out and everyone should be enjoying the new release. Take a moment to run SmartUpdate now as well as check your version and make sure you are running WebInspect 6.2.
What's New in 6.2:
- Performance and System Tuning
- Folks should see a improvement in overall audit performance as well as all sorts of other little improvements. We tweaked all sorts of things from database writes to our audit engines
- Intelligent Engines
- We taught our intelligent engines a few new tricks like appended XSS attacks and how to deal with sites that use odd URLs
- Major improvements to the Script Recorder
- The script recorders internals were replaced with a new proxy based engine. The previous script recorder directly attached to Internet Explorer which could be blocked by anti-virus or spy-ware blocking software causing Script Recorder to fail. The old method also wouldn't work with IE 7 so it had to go. The new Script Recorder works a lot like the previous version but you now is proxy based and we use an IE browser plug-in to take care of the tedious task of modifying your proxy settings for you.
- IE 7 support
- We tested with the final beta and hopefully nothing will change between now and when Microsoft releases the final version this fall.
There are also as usual a bunch of bugs that we fixed, with a lot of attention paid to step mode as well as Windows 2003 operation, you can read more about those items in the release notes.
So I feel pretty good about 6.2, a lot of time was spent on the little things and that generally makes for a solid release but I'd like to hear from you directly. Now it's your chance to tell us how you feel about the release or 6.2 in general by heading over to our discussion forums and letting us know how you feel (instant registration required). Please take a moment to share you experiences or ask a question or two and we will be sure to answer, or at the very least just let us know we are doing a good job!
